Psychology of Personality – Week 1 Short Paper- Snhu
My results for the Big Five Personality Test meshed well with what I received on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test. According to the MBTI, I am Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging (ISTJ) likewise according to the Big Five I tend to shy away from social situations (introversion), prefer traditional and familiar experiences (Openness; Sensing), am well organized and reliable (Conscientiousness; Thinking) and find it easy to express irritation with others (agreeableness; judging). Even though there are some pretty logical correlations between my two results, the way each is measured and the inferences are different.

The Big Five Personality test utilizes the basic five factors found by many researchers to be the core of personality; In other words the test measures personality on a dimensional scale. The Big Five Personality Test is different from the Myers-Briggs test on many levels. the big Five Personality Test is based on the five core personality elements: Openness to Experience/Intellect, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. The test puts its participants on a sliding scale converted to “percentile scores” (The Big Five Project). The score is related to others who have also taken this type of personality test. The Big Five Personality Test measures a person’s “intensity to deal with people through change and environment, and how an individual handles work and depression situations” (Personality-and Aptitude Career Tests).
