It was also determined that Mr. Bezerk felt his family had been taken over the case study, Billy Bezerk was to be tried for the ax murder of his family. His attorney considered the use of insanity defense and hired Cruddy D. Cider to conduct an expert psychological evaluation of criminal responsibility. From the assessment, Bezerk was found with a thought disorder, poor impulse control, and a fit of considerably unmodulated anger together with the fact that he frequently expresses paranoid ideation. Bezerk had hallucinated repeatedly, warning him that aliens had taken over the members of his family. Therefore, he was insane when he committed the crime. However, the ultimate decision on whether a defendant was insane at the time of an offense, is beyond psychology, since it is the law that defines it.

Standards for proving the legal insanity, differ from state to state. Dr. Cider can describe the defendant’s behavior, and confirm his impulsivity, instability, and lack of control. The findings can then be linked to the case by testifying that the observed symptoms, probably affected Bezerk’s behavior, on the day of the crime. At this point, it was up to the jury to determine whether the evidence provided met the legal definition of insanity. This analysis will discuss and compare different decision models Dr. Cider will consider in his research of Billy. Dr. Cider also will consider the APA Code of Ethics Principles and Standards while conducting his report. Ethics in psychology refers to, the correct rules of conduct while conducting a search (APA, 2010).

There are several factors that influence the code of ethics in psychology and they can be individual, social orientation, or cultural. An individual’s values may influence ethical behavior. An individual’s standard of behavior may influence how he or she makes an ethical decision, for instance; an individual may feel that lying to protect a workmate is not considered unethical. The morals of an individual determine ethical behavior, as such, personal goals may influence how ethical situations are handled. Individuals who do not fear taking risks are more likely to be involved in unethical conduct.
