psy216_final PROJECT: RESEARCH INVESTIGATION-Snhu
There a been many studies on personality and it can be very difficult to pinpoint what factor provides the most impact when molding personality. With more research and studies available, it has allowed us to look further into the cause and effect of the world around us. With factors such as genes, the environment, and nurture vs. nature, there are so many different variables to be added and subtracted. There were five articles I have reviewed for my paper, that will help to explain and explore theories concerning different aspects of personality. The first article I reviewed was by Paul has and Trapnell, titled Birth Order Effects on Personality and Achievement within Families (1999). The purpose of this article is to show how birth order impacts the achievement and drive of an individual.

Birth order can influence someone to develop different traits on the Five-Factor Model or Big Five. The authors hypothesized that the First-Borns (FBs) show more conscientious and conservative traits. Later-Borns (LBs) show more agreeable, liberal, and rebellious traits. They claim the FBs are far superior when it comes to achievement. The research design was S-data and O-data. Participants were asked their own opinion on the S-data on the birth order of their family. For O-data, participants were asked their opinion on their siblings. The research consisted of questionnaires and birth order written down in the form of boy or girl (B-G-G, etc.). Then identifying who was the most achievable to who is the most rebellious. Previous studies taken into consideration in this article were Sulloway’s niche model of personality development and Zajonc’s confluence model of intellectual achievement. All conclusions ended in agreement with one another. Firstborns were nominated as most achieving and Later borns as most rebellious and agreeable.
