The hypothesis, or claims, in this article and study, is that there may or may not be a correlation between attachment and personality development. More specifically, the Five-FactorModel. It is the author’s belief that through empirical research and study, they will be able to cover whether or not the attachment theory gives unique contributions to personality development. The authors did not expect to find links between personality and attachment, let alone any strong connections. Ironically enough the results determined that there is in fact a relationship between attachment and personality, both concurrently and longitudinally. The variable that is being looked at as an influence on personality is the model of attachment. The attachment theory is the main focus of comparison to the Big Five traits as an influence on personality development.

Throughout the article, there are a number of references to other studies that have taken place over time. Although they mention numerous studies, they also state that as far as they know, there have not been any studies that have investigated the correlation between childhood attachment and adult personality. They also state that due to the scarcity of data collected on the subject matter, they were unable to make directed predictions in some areas of their current research. All that being said, there are many studies that have contributed to this article’s research in a way that supports the idea that attachment plays a role in personality development. This study is correlational. The authors and researchers developed this study based on the idea that there is a potential relationship between two variables. Those variables are attachment and personality development.
