The nature-nurture topic has been a debate throughout psychology’s history. This topic focuses on whether human development is fully controlled by genes or unlearned knowledge, whether humans are born with “blank slates” and they develop their behaviors based on responses to their environment. Many people feel nature has more impact on human behavior, but I believe we are impacted by the environment we grow up in. I believe nurture has more impact on human behavior. Human behavior is impacted by both nature and nurture. Biological factors and genetics play a role in nature’s impact on human behavior. The cognitive perspective and how individuals process and store information individually are impacted by internal mental structures that help individuals learn and store information (Lewkowicz, 2011). The behavioral perspective relates to how humans observe and learn from behavior, and human responses are impacted by taught behaviors from a nurture perspective (Garvey, 2005).
