For my final project, I intend to research the effects of listening to music on one’s productivity, either while working or while doing household chores. There are different genres of music and everyone is different when it comes to the genre they prefer. There is a country, rock and roll, heavy metal, pop, hip hop, alternative, jazz, classical, dance/techno, and a lot of other subgenres. A person can also enjoy listening to more than one genre. I believe listening to a genre of music enjoyed by the person will greatly increase their productivity because the music will lift their spirits and cause them to have more energy to get things done. I also believe that listening to music the person does not find enjoyable will have the opposite effect on the person when it comes to productivity.

I feel that listening to music that they do not like will cause them to be less energized and become less productive. seems to be very useful. I think that these five factors are a good starting point but would like to broaden them to accommodate the participants who do like more than one genre of music. My research will focus on how music preference describes a person’s personality traits. My goal is to be able to describe a person’s personality traits by them saying their music preferences. My hypothesis is that a person’s music preference can describe their personality. I aim to prove this by conducting a research study. With this study, I will find the commonalities between people who listen to the same genre of music. I aim to set a certain group of personality traits for each genre and therefore will be able to use this information to satisfy my goal of describing a person base on their music preferences.
