For my final project, I intend to research if music and personality are linked to each other.I am interested in studying if a person’s preference in music can tell you about their personality. I believe that qualities of one’s personality traits could very well have a great effect on the type of music they prefer. One hundred sixty-four adolescents completed an age-appropriate personality inventory and a systematic measure of music listening preference. The findings indicate that each of the 3 music preference groups is inclined to demonstrate a unique profile of personality dimensions and developmental issues. Those preferring heavy or light music qualities indicated at least moderate difficulty in negotiating several distinct domains of personality and/or developmental issues; those with more eclectic music preferences did not indicate similar difficulty. Thus, there was considerable support for the general hypothesis that adolescents prefer listening to music that reflects specific personalities and the developmental issues with which they are dealing.

Annotation: In this study, they were researching the personalities and developmental issues of teenagers based on the type of music they preferred. They grouped the kids into three different music groups, those that preferred light music, those that preferred heavy music, and then those who preferred eclectic music. They then had each kid in every group take a survey about personality to determine if there were any similarities within each group. They concluded that there were similarities between the kids within each group and that they did differ from the other groups. This article relates to my final paper because I also want to know if taste in music is linked to one’s personality. Their findings help my research because they determined that music taste is related to personality. One major limitation in this study was the population used.
