Introduction: Scenario (From Milestone 1)I have chosen scenario 3 (mental health) as my focus for this project. I am studying psychology with a concentration in mental health and this is the reason I chose this scenario. Mental health is a fascinating topic and deals with an individual’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It also deals with how we think, act, and feel on an everyday basis. Mental health aids in determining why we stress and how we handle it, make decisions, as well as how we relate to others and it is important in every stage of life. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy treatment that is short-term and goal-oriented. Its focus and goal are to aid in changing patterns of behavior or thinking in order to change the way one feels. In this study, two kinds of CBT will be compared, a less challenging type (Treatment A) and a more challenging kind (Treatment B).

Randomly divided into two equal groups of twenty, forty adolescents in an inpatient clinic for the treatment of irrational thought patterns and self-destructive behaviors were observed. The first group, Treatment A, underwent the less challenging treatment of CBT. The second group, Treatment B, underwent the more challenging treatment of CBT. In one-on-one sessions held for at least an hour and a half per day, trained professionals treated the adolescents in both groups. For six continuous weeks, each of these sessions was broken down into 45 minutes. All participants of this study were informed that they would be included in the study. They all also signed consent forms giving their consent to the study and were told that they would be notified of the results of the research upon completion.

Although, not expected, any of the adolescents who exhibited any behaviors that required extra intervention, were treated outside of the study. We hope to gather enough data to be able to answer; What type of therapy is most efficient for self-destructive behaviors and irrational thought patterns? Introduction: Scenario Agrees (From Milestone 1)This study exemplifies one that agrees with the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct because it follows a thorough, concise study. The study is easy to break down and follow all the way through. Each adolescent was notified that they would be a part of a study. They also all signed consent forms giving informed consent and were all told that they will be informed of the results at the conclusion of the study. Participants should remain anonymous throughout the course of the study to ensure confidentiality.
