The other group of novelty seekers shows an increase in both anxiety and depression. The factors scientists are looking at are the effects of marijuana on patients with anxiety and depression. Previous studies conducted by other scientists show the correlation between marijuana and anxiety/depression has a negative association. Also evident in previous studies, results have shown such a wide range in results that indicate other factors must have been involved along with the marijuana. The experiments in this study seem to be more accurate since the scientists used questionnaires for a particular age group. The male and female students surveyed in this study were between the ages of 18 and 21. The subjects were given strict guidelines, such as taking no other drugs. During the experiment, students were asked questions about anxiety and depression between their first year and then when they returned to school for their second year. I believe this study was conducted in an ethical manner. I say this because the students were already using marijuana on a regular basis. The students were also in a safe place when the experiments took place. I would also say since many states are legalizing marijuana, we need to know if this could be a possible treatment for those with anxiety and depression disorders.
