Zappos.com is an online shoe and clothing shop based in Las Vegas, Nevada with the headquarters in Henderson, Nevada.

Founded in June 1999, under the domain name “ShoeSite.com, Zappos has 18 years in online consumer sales and an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. The company offers footwear, handbags, apparel and accessories.

Tony Hsieh (pronounced Shay), who has been C.E.O. of Zappos.com for the past 16 years, believes that, “The ability to inspire others to a higher purpose has to start with you”.

Hsieh is an inspiring leader because he is incredibly clear on his own core purpose and has been relentless at understanding and then pursuing his own passion. From his own foundation, which started with a worm farm, he has been able to inspire others (Zappos.com, 2017).

Zappos’ vision holds the belief that, “30% of all retail transactions in the US will be online. People will buy from the company with the best service and the best selection. Zappos.com will be that online store.”. In July of 2009, Zappos.com, Inc. announced its plans to join the Amazon.com, Inc. family.

Both companies shared a strong passion for customer service and were anxious to grow together. By 2010, Zappos had grown so much that there was need to restructure the company to continue offering customers the very best service possible.

The flexibility to possibly sell anything and everything one day was needed to make this change. On May 1, 2010, Zappos was restructured into ten separate companies under the Zappos Family umbrella (About Zappos Culture/Zappos.com, 2017).

Zappos mission statement is “To provide the best customer service possible.” In fact, if you go to their web site and look under their logo, it says “Powered by service.”(Zappos Insights, 2017).

Zappos.com is not just a successful online retailer, the company has created a mission that is about creating happiness.

Hsieh is completely convincing in expressing this vision. By focusing his team on a higher purpose than profits, the company transitions from
