Nursing practices are guided by ethical principles that help professionals cater to patients’ needs as they are supposed to. There are international ethics that are recognized across all nursing disciplines. Additionally, an individual can invest in personal ethical practice to help them relate with people outside the work environment. The main aim of such principles is to address the patients’ requirements and create a conducive environment for them as they seek to recover from their illnesses. Ethical principles that influence me personally and professionally. As a nurse, I understand that ethical, personal, and professional principles can vary in different people but overall, they define one’s relationship with other individuals within their lives or workplace. While at work, I interact with patients who have different medical conditions.

 My greatest motive is to provide them with much-needed care because it’s part of my job and my inclination toward humanitarian acts. That said, the ethical principles guiding my professional life as a nurse include confidentiality, fidelity, accountability, justice, and autonomy. I value human dignity and work at helping my patients preserve theirs regardless of their medical conditions. To achieve this, I maintain the personal details and medical reports of the ailing individuals until I can share them with the next of kin. I’m also keen not to use my mobile phone to take pictures of them and share them on social media platforms because I am aware of the damage that such actions can cause to their privacy and dignity. My personal ethical principles revolve around taking responsibility, selflessness, respect, honesty, good relations, and trustworthiness.

Personal and professional goals have connected to some extent because they guide people on how to carry themselves where they are needed. Professionals are people who have equipped themselves with the knowledge and skills in a given field. The interest in improving the professional identity is evidence of how high standards are placed upon the professionals in the community (Johnson et al., 2012). Each profession creates its norms, values, and scope of practice that distinguishes it from any other profession. Different legal ethics are upheld, and everyone needs to work as per the stipulated ethics in the field to be part of the profession. People in the field are expected to be knowledgeable and independently use decision-making in solving various problems that may arise. The decisions made should be within the norms and values stipulated for a profession. Professional identity is necessary attainment that requires one to meet if he or she has to be successful in the career.

Inability to be identified within a profession inhibits one from carrying out his or her duties, acceptance in the profession, and inability to link with the desired profession. Asa registered nurse, one has to understand what it means to be a registered nurse and how to do things following all the legal requirements associated (Johnson et al., 2012). This paper is going to discuss the professional identity of the registered nurse based on all the legal issues involved in the profession.
