Executive Summary: MED-ID is a medical history information and identification device, which is the roadway to an individual’s personal medical records. It gives medical personnel access to comprehensive information of an individual’s health.
Individual’s information changes and the medical information are important to personalized care. Medical records are at the disposal of hospitals and the emergency medical technician (EMT), where the coordination of care is needed and vital to the patient (I-Denti-Fied.com, 2011).
The availability of such information is imperative at point of service, especially in emergencies or where coordination of care is issue.Each time an individual is seen by a different medical provider a new record is created.
According to I-Denti-Fied.com (2011), “Only through a consolidated view across all of these medical records are physicians afforded the intelligence to diagnose and treat you effectively” The MED-ID System consists of two components, a personalized Identification Number and a Care Coordination Portal.
Using these two components, along with a universal reader, medical personnel can gain access to health histories” (About Us). In today’s society most people have more than one medical record and MED-ID brings all of the medical records into one view.
The MED-ID system includes a Care Coordination Portal and a Unique Patient Identifier embedded in a wallet card, keychain, and medical ID bracelet/necklace (I-Denti-Fied.com, 2011). The barcode on the wallet card, keychain card, and ID bracelet/necklace can be read on several devices such as an iPhone, a standard RFID reader, a call center, or the Internet.
Current Marketing Situation:
The health care information technology market according to Prnewswire.com (2012) “Is estimated to be $53.8 billion by 2014, growing at a CAGR of 16.1%. The market is expected to grow because of the tremendous demand for general applications which includes electronic medical records, electronic health records, computerized physician order entry system and non-clinical systems.
It is expected that the market for general applications will grow at an overall CAGR of 13.0% from 2009 – 2014. The main driving element for global healthcare information technology market is the changing government regulations and government initiatives to bring down the healthcare costs,” (Markets and Markets: Healthcare Information Technology Systems Market to be worth $53.8 Billion by 2014).
MED-ID will be part of the information technology, which will provide remedies to every healthcare provider, hospital, EMT, new patients, and nursing homes. The increases in the number of patients who visit doctor’s offices and hospitals have increased the demand of information technology applications in healthcare sector (PR Newswire, 2012).
