In a world full of ever-changing scientific methodologies comes plentiful non-scientific phenomena that are still unable to be factually backed. These non-scientific topics, or pseudoscience, are “bogus claims masquerading as scientific facts” (Rosnow, 2013, p. 352). In essence, pseudosciences allege to make a scientific claim about an occurrence without the findings to substantiate it. Mainly, pseudosciences lack the scientific method, or the “systematic research approach or outlook emphasizing the use of empirical reasoning” (Rosnow, 2013, p. 354). Lacking scientific strategy, in turn, causes many people to become quite skeptical of the pseudoscience while others fight to prove it. With the abundance of pseudosciences acknowledged today, there are a select few that are more renowned than others.

One of the acclaimed pseudosciences thoroughly being researched refers to our moon and its several phases. More specifically, it correlates the moon’s cycles with human behavior. According to Campbell and Beets (1978), Moon lunacy occurs when “the moon exerts a powerful gravitational pull on the earth, resulting in the tides and indirectly influencing the life cycles of small marine animals. It is also generally believed to influence human behavior and experience directly” (p. 1123). Interestingly, moon lunacy has even been said to affect a woman’s menstrual cycle as well as reproduction. Ancient Greek philosopher, Aristotle, believed that a full moon was the height of life and the waning moon was the height of death.
