Although using blockchain in supply chain and logistics is an exciting a new prospect, the technology lacks the maturity necessary to help organization’s enable global deployment today.

Many new digital technologies at various stages of development hold a promise for manufacturers and the supply chain. The challenge for may management teams is knowing which technologies they should invest in- and when.

Also, blockchain technologies have become astringent concerns for organizations that fall out of the Fortune500 and Fortune1000 lists. The cost of implementing such resources is one of the primary reasons organizations are failing to deploy them.

Simply put, blockchain can become the future for many organization’s supplychain logistics, but there are pricing limitations and challenges associated with its rapid growth. From a particularly narrow operational standpoint, blockchains are not, in and of themselves, more efficient than a centralized data system.

After all, they do require extensively more computing power to process efficiently. Thetechnology however, is uniquely able to resolve important issues of trust andvisibility in increasingly fluid manufacturing and supply networks.

Such limitations of blockchain can be discouraging for organizations but serve as a beacon of hope for a better future in supply chain management.

To unlock the true value and potential of using blockchain in logistics and supply chain management, shippers must consider its existing hurdles and the possible challenges as the technology continues to mature.

From a distance, “blockchain might seem to be offering similar advantages as of Bitcoin to other industries, but it needs to be re-architected for differentuse cases. (Roverson, 2018)” Organizations must closely evaluate which business operations will be working with blockchain.

For lasting success, it must be integrated seamlessly with other systems in an IT network. Many organizations lack the resources and manpower to effectively create a hybridintegration framework. This technology and innovation provides an end-to
