1.Prepare a supply segmentation of CAMTEL’s purchasing categories. Show the segmentation in matrix form. Explain the sourcing strategy that would be appropriate for each major purchase category and briefly explain why. What are the implications (if any) for staffing and organization within purchasing?

Segmentation allows organizations like CAMTEL that ability to boost profitability by tailoring their supply chain strategy to each customer and product in their portfolio.

By having a better understand of the profit profiles for their customers and products, CAMTEL can tailor a more profitable supply chain strategy to each of them, thus working to increase the overall profitability.

Many organizations today, however, still choose to use the “one size fits all” supply chain processes and policies, overserving some customers and quickly underserving others – a practice that leads to a significant profitability and cash-flow leakage and potentially lose sales.

As the smaller of their three competitors, the segmentation works specifically to help supply chain managers address some of the biggest issues facing their allocation and profitability margins. Segmentation is not necessarily just a network strategy, an inventory strategy, or a fulfillment and manufacturing strategy.

Rather, it’s an end-to-end strategy for the supply chain that has implications for many areas from the consumer all the way through to the suppliers.

The achieve maximum value from segmentation for both the consumer and the respective enterprise, CAMTEL must work to create policies in each area that are strategically coordinated to the value proposition offered to each customer and product combination.

CAMTEL’s current purchasing power is centralized with the primary mission of focusingon the supply of materials and components to manufacturing.

CEO Dan Walter believes the organizational change is needed to help elevate the status of Purchasing to help enableCAMTEL to more effectively leverage their strategic supply management opportunities. With Hybrids as a key component of the RF amplifies, product functionality and quality depend heavily on this component.

This product design is based to a large extent on the design and capabilities of the hybrid. Currently, suppliers have shown some hesitation to expand capacity for hybrid manufacturing because of the historic volatility in demand
