The choice of media to be used for a network that spans 100 meters depends upon several requirements that include cost, ease of installation, environmental factors such as the need to trench and EMI or Electromagnetic Interference, performance and attenuation, security, and network fault tolerance (as related to network topology).
Regarding each type of media (which would include the supporting network devices), the least expensive would be unshielded twisted pair in the form of CAT 5 or 6, which is also generally the least expensive to install (flexible cable and lower cost network equipment), but not resistant to environmental factors such as EMI (unless the more expensive shielded variety is used).
However, twisted pair does support higher network speeds, up to 1000 Mbps over the 100 meter distance. Coaxial cable would be more expensive to install than twisted pair due to higher cable cost and installation difficulty (the cable is very stiff), but it does have a built in shield for EMI protection with less attenuation over longer distances (up to 500 meters with RG6).
However, coaxial cable only supports network speeds up to 10 Mbps and only supports bus topology where the entire network fails if a single break occurs in the network or a host fails. Fiber optics cable has many advantages over both coaxial and twisted pair cabling, including being impervious to EMI, and low attenuation over distances much longer than 100 meters, and support for higher network bandwidths (40 Gbps).
Fiber optics can also be used in star topologies (similar to twisted pair), including fault tolerant full and partial mesh, and even dual ring. However, fiber optics cable is fragile and equipment is more expensive than either of the copper cable media, and is also more expensive to install (requires professionals with fiber optics training and experience).
Wireless media currently supports the lowest bandwidths of all the media options in this discussion, with the 802.11n standard officially at 104 Mbps. However, vendor solutions allow up to over 300 Mbps, and LTE wireless (although expensive due to requiring a service provider) promises 1000 Mbps in the near future. Wireless is the least resistant to EMI, and also less fault tolerant than the others
