Unit 9 Project Questions: Part I

1.List 2 examples of legal issues affecting healthcare and describe how you determined your choices to be legal issues.

2 examples of legal issues affecting healthcare are confidentiality and doing things based on their own religious beliefs. I say these two are legal issues affecting healthcare because it is often hard to keep information to yourself.

Often times without thinking, we tend to share information we should not be sharing. If this information hit the wrong ears, it could result to a legal matter. We has healthcare professionals need to understand the importance of confidentiality and also its consequences.

As far as doing things or making decisions based on your own religious beliefs, it practically speaks for itself. There will be many times patients come in with a different religious belief as you, and regardless how you may feel about the situation or decision it must be realized that it is not up to us what the patient decide to do.

It is important that we respect their decision because if we decide to take matters in our own hands and do what we believe is right may also result in a legal issue.

2.Give 2 examples of ethical issues affecting healthcare and describe how you determined your choices to be ethical issues.

2 examples of ethical issues affecting healthcare are abortions and how people want their tax dollars spent. Most tax payers who are against abortion do not wanttheir tax dollars spent on abortions for women currently on Medicaid.

Another ethical issue affecting healthcare would be organ transplants and how it is determined as to how the patient is able to receive the transplant. I have seen a situation where the people in the ethics committee made a decision off paperwork and words of others.

Not once did they go to see about the patient themselves and make a decision based on what they have examined for themselves. A woman wasdenied a transplant due to the fact that she had become hooked on the pain
