ECE 313 Week 1 Assignment Family Partnerships

(Collaboration with Parents and Community )
Family Partnerships. Chapter 1 focuses on the family-centered approach to early childhood education, highlighting the importance of the partnership between the family, the early childhood program, and the community to maximize a child’s development and learning. For this assignment, you will create a one- to two-page fact sheet (not including title and reference pages) you can provide to the families in your program that explains the values and challenges of a family-centered approach. The content on your fact sheet should:
Summarize the components of a family-centered approach.
Describe five benefits of a family-centered approach.
Describe two potential obstacles to overcome in a family-centered approach.
Recommend two strategies to overcome obstacles and enlist the support of parents.
In addition to the required content, please be creative with your fact sheet. Keep in mind that this is a resource to be used in the classroom, so make it parent friendly and engaging. You may wish to add visuals and pictures. Be sure to also use at least one scholarly source in addition to the text to support the ideas, and cite all references in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

ECE 313 Week 1 Discussion 1 Attachment (Secure attachment)

Attachment. The development of attachment is a process that children go through, which families and early care educators can have a positive impact on. Chapter 2 of the text and Nancy Balaban’s article, “Easing the Separation Process for Infants, Toddlers, and Families” explain the four types of attachment:
Secure attachment
Insecure/avoidant attachment
Insecure/resistant/ambivalent attachment
Disoriented/disorganized attachment.
Select one of the four attachment styles above. Imagine that a child in your program is exhibiting issues in this type of attachment. For this discussion, explain how you might communicate with parents to help foster a positive attachment in the early care and education program. Your response should address the following:
Characteristics of this type of attachment to inform parents
Shared communication plan to engage parents
Suggestions that you would offer to foster a positive attachment in the classroom
Include your choice of attachment type in the Subject line of your discussion post. Be sure your discussion post also includes a reference to the textbook to support your ideas.
Guided Response: Select at least two responses that focus on a different type of attachment than the one you selected. Provide a strategy/suggestion of how educators can support this role of attachment positively in the classroom.

ECE 313 Week 1 Journal Looking Back

(Collaboration with Parents and Community )
Looking Back. Some say our society is creating children who are more independent today than those who were growing up 20 years ago; others contend children today lack independence. Based on your own experiences and/or your ECE coursework, reflect on this idea and share your opinion of child development in our society today.
Journal Options:
You may compose a written response of your argument, addressing the required criteria.
You can create an audio recording of your argument, addressing the required criteria.

ECE 313 Week 2 Discussion 1 Developing Autonomy

Developing Autonomy. Erikson’s second psychosocial stage, autonomy versus shame and doubt, describes the child’s need for autonomy at a time when many developmental milestones are occurring. Early childhood caregivers and parents can work together to support children’s development by guiding children with autonomy and developing socially and culturally appropriate behaviors.
For this discussion, choose one of challenges to overcome in helping children develop autonomy:
Doubt/fear
Mistrust/insecurity
Tantrums
Control/power struggle
Unregulated emotions
Separation anxiety
Stranger anxiety
Compose a sample letter to parents that includes the following:
Characteristics of the behavior(s)
A strategy to deal with this particular challenge
Socially appropriate responses and actions to help the child develop autonomy
A recommendation for one resource to help parents learn more
Your response should include at least one outside resource to share with parents, with reference formatted in APA style.
Guided Response: Review several of your classmates’ posts. Respond to at least two of your classmates who have identified a different challenge than you. Extend their thoughts on how we can help children develop autonomy.
