My Definition of Justice

The definition of justice, especially when it comes to philosophers, is a hot topic of discussion. A topic that seems to have much contention surrounded in it.

I will be contributing to the conversation of “what is justice” by using examples provided by the text along with one of my own that I believe to make a relatively good point.In my personal opinion, justice is an entirely irrelevant concept.

I am against the narrativethat “justice” is objectively right and that it is essential for human beings to better themselves.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I lean away from Socrates’ argument as for what justice is defined as and lean a little bit closer to Thrasymachus’ argument which states that “justice is really the good of another, what is advantageous for the stronger and the ruler, and harmful to theone who obeys and serves.

Injustice is the opposite, it rules those simpleminded—for that is whatthey really are—just people, and the ones it rules do what is advantageous for the other who is stronger; and they make the one they serve happy, but they do not make themselves the least bit happy,” (343b).

In essence, what Thrasymachus is saying here is that the concepts of justice and being just along with the concepts of injustice and being unjust are not intrinsically good or bad
