The chosen topic is the promotion of maternal child, pediatric and infant vaccinations in Riverside County, California, United States.

 Health Inequity or DisparityHealth status varies depending on the residential area and other factors like ethnic background. Generally, the US records a more than an eight-year gap in life expectancy between whites and blacks (California Pan–Ethnic Health Network). The health disparity is said to have been caused by racial segregation and discrimination over the years. However, health behaviors, socioeconomic factors, and physical environment also cause health disparity. In Riverside County, health disparity and inequity are experienced by African Americans and Latinos and are associated with poor birth outcomes, poverty, low education level, and general well-being (Shape Riverside County). Of the most significant concern are child health and infant mortality, where the rate in Blacks is approximately triple that of other ethnic groups.

In 2012, the rate was recorded to be 11.3 in African Americans, while that of whites and Latinos was only 4.8 and 4.9 per 1000 live births, respectively (Shape Riverside County; California Pan-Ethnic Health Network). Primary and prevention resources promoting the community is essential in improving maternal-child and pediatric services. Sustainable transportation is one of the primary community resources that are needed for safe deliveries and to maintain the infant’s health. Another community-based requirement is the availability of healthy foods, improved environmental factors like water and air quality, and neighborhood planning that directly affects the mother (Sobo, Seid, & Gelhard, 2006). Health and prevention resources include vaccinations, health screenings, and adequate pediatric services. Substance abuse has been recorded to be a contributing factor in infant health and therefore resources that are already available for the prevention and reduction of alcohol and drug use in mothers are essential.
