On the surface level, the digestive system is responsible for ingestion, digestion, absorption, and elimination of molecules.

In this specific instance, the focus of the lab is the digestion of lipids. Because lipids are hydrophobic, pancreatic lipase is utilized to break down triglycerides into smaller molecules in the aqueous digestive tract (Campbell 2014).

In addition to this, bile salts work with pancreatic lipase to help emulsify lipids (Harris-Haller 2015).

In addition to this, bile salts work with pancreatic lipase to help emulsify lipids (Harris-Haller 2015). An experiment is conducted to test the effects of digestion of pancreatic lipase on vegetable oil in comparison to water and vegetable oil.

The hypothesis of this experiment is that the presence of bile salts allows for the emulsification of vegetable oil regardless of the enzyme present.

In contrast, the null hypothesis is that no emulsification will occur in the presence of bile salts.

Methods/Materials

The experiment primarily requires pancreatic lipase, bile salt, vegetable oil, water, phenol red indicator, and a water bath. Prior to the setup, set the temperature of the water
